Lookbook | Embracing the madness

Hey lovelies,
How are we today? I hope you're feeling well and alive! I've been meaning to publish this article since I posted that little image tease on Facebook and Instagram the other night but what can I say? I love to tease haha..ha. Okay so back to the article sans my cringe worthy efforts to be funny. Today we are talking about modern style African fashion, my undying love for fashion in general and of course this beautiful outfit I threw together on thursday afternoon.

There's something about African prints (mainly known as 'ankara') that I absolutely love. If you haven't guessed by now I'm African (haha) and culture is very important to me... Okay, so I don't care about culture, I was just trying to say something meaningful and thoughtful, which really didn't translate well because the truth is I just like the prints. I think people of the western culture don't wear prints enough and I think that's kinda moronic. Prints are dynamic, eccentric and unique. It's 2014 and some people are still trying to rock wearing all purple or all pink. Doing that is like walking into Anna Wintour's office dressed in head to toe Dolce & Gabanna. Nothing wrong with D&G but you may as well have stolen a look directly from the runway. That's the lazy way of doing things; if you really want to show case your personal style then it is essential to think outside the box..without actually stepping out of that box. No one wants to see 'ugly betty' crazy, we want to see original, classic, ambitious.

Anyway I think you understand the point I'm trying to make. I'll be more than happy to expand on what I just summarised if you want. Judging from the popularity of this outfit, I think It's only right that I provide you with some outfit details. The dress was custom made for me in Nigeria, a beautiful gift from my mother- thanks mum, I know you're reading- she allowed me to pick a fabric out of the few that she had preselected. I usually never wear pink but ironically enough this print spoke to me in ways most things (or people) can't. I was astonishingly drawn to it and knew that it would have its own special place in my wardrobe. The rings and purse are from Penneys/Primark; Penneys is my go-to place for jewellery and accessories. Even in emergencies when I think one of my basic outfits needs a little rejuvenating, I always know Penneys has my back. The shoes are from New Look; I purchased them on sale for just €12- if that isn't a bargain then I simply don't know what is. I think pointy heels are becoming a thing, It's just unfortunate that they are so hard to walk in for a long period of time. Sigh. Anyway I still think you should grab yourself a pair of these type of shoes, you can find similar ones here, here and here. I'm wearing my plum lipstick from Wet &Wild. I am so pleased with this lipstick because It only cost me €3 and I wear it more often than any of my high end lipsticks. You can purchase W&W lipsticks in Dunnes Stores or any drug store.

Last thing I wanted to talk about with you guys today is why I love clothes so much. Some people look at me like I'm crazy when I get overly excited when buying new clothes or find clothing that I actually like. The rush of adrenaline I get from writing this fashion blog can be seen by many as obscene and the time I dedicate to it can be seen as pathetic. However that's the thing, I don't feel pathetic, I feel exhilarated. Fashion and style are my coping mechanisms. You know when the world isn't being fair to you at times and you either drink yourself to oblivion, read a book or listen to music intensely? That may be your main coping mechanism and fashion is mine. I prefer spending my time enjoying and dwelling in the simpler things in life, like deciding what outfit to wear and when to wear it. I dwell in the simplistic aspects of life because it is that, that makes me truly happy.

I hope you guys enjoyed this unnecessarily long article and if you liked it, please do me a huge favour and share it with your friends or leave me some feedback below or on any of my social media.
