Beyond the Surface: Martyna Drozdowska

Hey guys,

So I've just settled back into college and it's been crazy! Between catching up with friends and receiving my semester 1 results, I've had a lot on my plate.  Lie. I sat on my laptop and watched Private Practice day to night errr'day for 5 days straight- it's safe to say I am addicted even though I don't even like medical stuff. The storyline for each episode is always irresistible and let me tell you cliff hangers are the devil.

Unfortunately this semester is going to be tough as I have modules that you can't doss in, thus actually having to do work (accounting, economics, web design blah blah blah) so I will no longer be blogging daily! This is your cue for booing me. *sad face*
I'll be blogging Mondays, wednesdays and saturdays and every other day of the week where procrastination of doing college work settles in.

Okay so how are we?! How are you settling back into college/school/work life after christmas?! I want to know so do sound off in the comments. I know I'm drained from just 3 days of college but I have the most interesting blog post for you. Grab your cup of tea or coffee and a blanket- get comfortable because I'm going to need all of your attention

Meet Martyna Drozdowska

Poland's up and coming fashion designer. As you will notice below, her collection titled "Project Mess" is bursting with creativity. Martyna incorporates edgy, quirky and stylish into one cohesive collection! I was simply shocked when I found out she had made each piece of garment herself but what I love most is that her line is a breath of fresh air for the teens of today. It's not Hollister & it's certainly not Gossip Girl; it is unique, fun and urban. It appeals to the modern generation and what's interesting about this collection is that it is simple and it isn't simple at the same time and that's what fashion is all about- thinking outside the box.

"Big dreams, good music & expensive taste."

  • What's the name of your line and how did you come up with it?

I heard the song and saw the video for fashion Killa where RiRi showed up in a stunning Zebra dress. The next day when I was out getting materials I saw the same type of Zebra material it couldn't have been a coincidence and that's how Animal Mess came into being.

  • Are you studying fashion in college?

No I don't study fashion, I finished a completely different major; Russian philology.

  • Since when did you know you wanted to be a fashion designer?

It's been a dream of mine ever since I can remember but the first dress was created about 2 months ago.

  • What is the general style like in your city?

For a year now I've been living in Gdansk (Poland) I see people on the streets of our town and most of them dress in a mundane manner, without creativity; black and grey are dominant. There are exceptions of course and these are exactly the people who inspired me to add some "madness" to our streets.

  • What fashion capital would you like to live in most?

London or New York are mixtures of styles and trends; through fashion people express their religions, hobbies, music tastes or even careers. You can't talk about one trending style. The place is full of a complete fashion freedom.

  • Where do you want to be in 10 years?

I don't think that far into the future. The present is most important to me. Here and Now.

  • How do you advertise your line?

Mainly Facebook, soon enough I should have a website. I'm also in the process of negotiating a deal to showcase my clothes in a shop for young fashion designers .And of course fashion markets for street styles.

  • Tell us about the photoshoots you do for your line.

For now there's only been one photo shoot. It was a typical product photo shoot, some pictures are already up on the official page and the rest will be up any time from now. The model was Osi Ugonoh who perfectly reflected the character of the whole line.

  • Top 3 designers you admire most and why?

I have many. The first is Vivienne Westwood who's one of the most colorful fashion designers. She brought in the style of ripped shirts and stained jeans; it's also thanks to her that on t-shirts there are funny or provocative statements and of course I loved the flannel shirt that is no longer a working class symbol but the garment of every stylish fashionista.
The second is Jean Charles Castlebajac. I love him for his intensive colours, prints(brilliant cartoon characters like micky mouse or bambi) and attached accessories added to the jacket of the mascot, the frog Kermit .

  • Celebrity style crushes?

Cassie, Beyoncé and Riri - fashion killa heheh!

  • How would you describe your personal style?

My style is Project MESS.
I like to be different. My clothes are often brave, for Polish standards mainly. Like most people I wear things from the internet but I've always had a problem with finding my dream clothes (mainly dresses). That's where the idea for Project Mess came from.

  • Advice for aspiring fashion designers like yourself?

I myself am a starting designer haha one thing I can say is to follow your heart and not worry about the failures. Starting anything is always a challenge .

Steal Her Style & Makeup: Miranda Kerr

Hey guys,

Apologies for the inconsistency but I thought I'd laze around like any other teen and enjoy the last few days of freedom before college starts up again. However today I've got a very exciting steal her style and makeup post for you- how generous right?! Now I know this post will appeal more to you 20 something year olds and also to those of you girls looking to vamp up your style with some elegance and sophistication.

Did anyone say Miranda Kerr? That's what I thought! I love this model's style because she always creates the perfect balance between simple and stylish. She understands the concept of maybe sometimes less is more. I'd say she's a strong mix of Zara, Asos and Topshop so for those of you who love those stores and the style of this super stunning model, grab yourself a cup of coffee or tea and relax because this is going  to be a bloody good one!

Updates

  • My giveaway is over in a few days so if you haven't entered yet, what are you waiting for?! The prize has been updated to a Naked 3 Palette; you can find the rules to the giveaway here. This is just a little gift to say thank you so much to those of you who read and support my blog.

  • My fashion page Kardashian Kouture is updated daily to provide you with some outfit inspiration and celebrity gossip; I would love if you guys could like it here.

  • Also I've been getting a lot of offers and suggestions for this blog and I'm super excited for what's in store for 2014; I can't give too much away yet but I will be introducing the blog posts bit by bit and I hope you guys enjoy them.

I love you guys and thank you so much for the support; I have a feeling that being a part of the fashion blogosphere this year is going to change my life and I'm beyond excited!

Stay stylish
-Mizzmoi X

Miranda's makeup is always so natural along with a lot of the VS models. If you want to recreate this look on yourself, keep your eyebrows in shape and the rest is history!

How To: Dress for your shape

Hey guys,

I haven't posted in a while but I've got a highly requested piece for you! Dressing for your shape is hard to define because there is nearly an invisible line between what suits who these days.  I'm going to show you guys what works best for your shape. This doesn't mean that other items won't suit you, it just means these are the items that suit you the most. I think that's what people get confused about; you think you're restricted to wearing things that suit you the best when that is not the case at all; hey if you ain't got it, fake it.  Sit tight guys, it's going to be an interesting one!

Before you know what works best for you, you gotta know what your shape is first, right?! I did a bit of digging before I started writing this post so you can trust me on this one.

Side note: My sister recommended I do this post but with a twist; how to wear whatever you want without worrying about your shape, I could do a full post on this for you if you want me to but I want to keep it simple for the minute. While writing this post I realised that why would you wear other things that don't suit you as much as the things that do suit you? It just doesn't make any sense to me. What do you think?

Hope this piece helps you and I could never thank you enough for the ongoing support!

Love from your girl

Best Dressed: Débutantes (De la Salle)

Hey guys,

So I know I've been lacking in the blogging department but hey I have to be inspired to be able to write this stuff- it just doesn't come out of my derriere. Anyway so yesterday was a typical Friday night, came home from work and logged on to Facebook (as you do) only to see that a Debs was taking place. Of course this provided me with the chance to select best dressed. Really, I should attend these events in order to get a wider option but guys, I think Facebook does the trick just fine sometimes! (Plus I'm not in school anymore so that would be awkward hehe). So between last night and yesterday I picked out the best outfits that came up on my newsfeed and yes I will be listing them in order of preference to make it interesting for you guys, see if you agree/disagree- that kind of stuff. I must say I was in complete shock at some of the outfits; I've come to realise that as the years pass the dresses get better in some people's case or worse in others. But seeing as we're keeping it positive on this blog, I am super excited to show you who I picked! I won't be commenting on the outfits because I'm trying to be objective here haha!

"Fashion is something you can learn but personal style is something one must discover."

What I mean by this is that I can spot the people who've just looked at a couple magazines and stole outfit ideas from head to toe and I know those who haven't. What I love about these best dressed gals and guys below is that they all possess something unique; a personal sense of style. That's not to say that the hollywood glamour theme isn't present, I'm just exemplifying the fact that it's not uniformed. So I'll stop rambling now and let you guys see whom I've selected.

Thanks so much for reading and remember that I love you guys.

Updates:

  • A major thanks to Suzanne Jackson (sosueme.ie) for the compliment, I hope to one day be at the level she is with the support of you guys!

  • Don't forget to enter my Urban Decay giveaway and get your friends to enter too; if 100 people enter by January 30th, I'm upgrading the prize from a Naked basics palette to a Naked 3 palette. Click here to enter.

Beyond The Surface: Michaela Marrett

Hey guys,

Cannot believe this is my last blog post of 2013, crazy huh? From starting my blog properly during the summer, I had no idea my views and followers would skyrocket like it has. Like every average blogger I started blogging because I wanted to share the things I liked, disliked and appreciated with you guys. No, I refuse to be full of cringe worthy information about how 2013 has been the best year of my life, but I will say one thing; a major thank you to everyone who has contributed to the great things and if you didn't I guess I'll be leaving you behind in 2013 (no hard feelings).

But guys can I just dwell in the fact that a few months ago no one knew about my blog and now thousands of you have read it at least once, I am ultimately grateful and I hope 2014 will hold positive surprises that we couldn't even dream of happening, both for you and for me.

Now back to the main focus of this post, I would like to introduce you guys to a very talented girl. As you know, I love having a little creep on Facebook, especially when something interesting on my newsfeed catches my eye. So what was so interesting that had me wanting to do a whole blog post on it? Michaela Marrett. Some of you may have already been aware of her amazing makeup and beauty skills but when I flicked through her pictures, I was in complete awe. Only then did I actually realise that the use of makeup is an art, an art which I found was Michaela's forté; so of course I had to show you guys.

I know with a lot of hard work and patience (and perhaps the start up of a youtube channel?) Michaela could just be Ireland's next big thing in the beauty industry and believe me I am not just saying that. What a lot of people don't understand is that if you want a career in something you have to start perfecting your skills in that area from the minute you realise that it is your forté. I know a lot of you guys look at young celebrities and wonder how they got so successful so quickly- well if you look close enough you'll realise that most of them started their career from the age of as little as 3 years old. For example: Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Michael Jackson and the amazing Beyoncé.

"If you want to be somebody, if you wanna go somewhere then you better wake up and pay attention."

Here are the three cohesive looks that Michaela created especially for my blog. These three looks show how you can go from day time to night time and finally to fantasy, showing that makeup isn't just something that is used to enhance beauty but to create art. Sounds beautiful right?

1. The Simple Day Look

2. New Years Eve Party Look

Tips for Day to Night Transition

  •  When applying foundation use enough to attend to the coverage you need but not too much as this allows for slightly more to be applied on top later on for the night look.
  • Translucent powder and matte blusher and bronzers will add colour and prevent shine building up in the products and give you an oil free face.

  • Brow shape can be difficult but help is at hand. Try some brow stencils available in chemists and boots all over. I personally use the French Connection stencils.
  • A base for your shadow will help waterproof and smudge proof all your hard work.
  • Use a bank card or credit card to help create a nice clean edge for your look.
  • Experiment with different shades of blue and orange. I used a blusher for my shade because I liked it. Remember just because it's made for one thing doesn't mean you can't use it other ways!
  • Use a purple shade as a mid-tone to nicely blend the two clashing colours together.
  • Add your lippy and go a little more daring with your contour and you're good to go.

3. Fantasy Look

Michaela says:

  • For this look I used the MAN Liner in Oceans's 11 and added this to my original eye.
  • I contoured with MAN Pigment Orange Roughie.
  • I did a slight ombré lip with the OPI lipstick and MAN Liner in Ocean's 11.
  • I mixed the MAN pigment and OPI Lipstick and used that to define my brows.

 Products

  • MAN Foundation Shade 202.
  • CATRICE Translucent Powder
  • CARGO Blusher Shade Gotham
  • LANCÔME Bronzer in 03 Ocre Bronze
  • French Connection Brown Eyebrow Pencil
  • KHROMA Joystick in Modern Mauve
  • KHROMA WhipLash Mascara
  • OPI LIPCOLOUR Baguette Me Not
  • BellaPierre Make Up Base
  • Credit Card to help achieve sharp edge
  • Rimmel Colour Rush in Matte White
  • BellaPierre in Shade Ha Ha
  • Fuchsia Blusher Palette Shade Sunrise
  • Purple Mauve in Smashbox Muse Palette
  • MAN Pigment in shade Orange Roughie
  • MAN Liner in shade Ocean's 11

So I hope you guys enjoyed that post and I just wanted to say a massive thank you to Michaela for agreeing to feature on my blog.

Happy New Years and remember that I love you guys.

Best Dressed: Facebookers of the month (Christmas Edition)

Hey guys,

I know I haven't blogged in a few days because I got carried away with family and friends, which I don't regret- I've missed them all so much and if that meant taking a few days off blogging then so be it hehe. But guys I think I have pneumonia now from making a horrible decision to go out in the midst of a storm, feel free to judge and crucify me haha!

Okay I've got some pretty important updates for you guys on a few things. I know some of you are dying to know what I'm blogging about next so here is a list:

  • Feature on Kim Kardashian
  • How To: Dress for your shape
  • Giveaway: Win a photoshoot with the amazing photographer Peter McCabe
  • How To: Flat stomach in 10 days
  • Shannon does my makeup (Youtube video)
  • Beyond the surface: Ogi Ugonoh

About the Urban Decay Naked Palette Giveaway, I've decided to extend the date to the 30th of January. Before you guys start ranting and raving, I am further upgrading the giveaway; instead of giving away a Basics Palette, I will be giving away the Naked 3 palette if 100 people enter this giveaway by the 30th; I think 40 odd people have entered so guys get your friends to enter because this is a giveaway not to be missed! So hopefully this will encourage more of you to enter.

Now finally to get back on topic, I have picked 6 Best Dressed Facebookers of the month even though it was just supposed to be 5. Let me just say you guys are on point! I'll be creeping for January's best dressed in a few days guys so make sure to keep posting.
I just wanted to let you guys know that the style of others is something I love incorporating into my blog because hey two heads are always better than one; the more people you have to draw inspiration from the more chance you have of finding your own distinct style.

1.  Sandy Okafor:  Pretty in White

Mizzmoi says: I was honestly stunned when I saw your picture on my newsfeed. The outfit was so simple but classy, sophisticated but edgy. The touch of red screams perfection. Great combination, couldn't have put a better outfit together myself.

2. Justine McKenna: La fille de Paris

Mizzmoi says: Your outfit reminds me of the elegance of French girls. I love how you paired these pieces together!

3. Suzanne Jackson: New York City Dreams

Mizzmoi says: The contrast between the pink furry jacket and the leather jacket is my favourite thing about this outfit. Even if the jacket was black this outfit would still be just as hot; what people don't realise is that it's not only the colour combination that can make an outfit, it's the textures of the pieces also.

4. Orlaith Kent: Upper East side chic

Mizzmoi says: This look reminds me of Serena from Gossip Girl. Orlaith once again you have made it on this month's best dressed! Your style in general reminds me so much of Serena (Blake Lively) from Gossip Girl. Black and white looks so strong together and I am loving the hat!

5. Blake Von D: Urban sophistication

Mizzmoi says: I saw this collage on my newsfeed on Christmas day and had to share. I've always been a major of your style and blog. These 3 looks specifically left me speechless, you are so inspirational!

6. Joy Adeyanju: Rihanna personified

Mizzmoi says: I don't know what it is but the minute I saw this outfit on my newsfeed, I thought of Rihanna! I love how you're rocking the "all black errr'thing" look; the contrast between the textures on that pencil skirt looks amazing and you know exactly how to dress for your shape.
