Beyond The Surface: Michaela Marrett

Hey guys,

Cannot believe this is my last blog post of 2013, crazy huh? From starting my blog properly during the summer, I had no idea my views and followers would skyrocket like it has. Like every average blogger I started blogging because I wanted to share the things I liked, disliked and appreciated with you guys. No, I refuse to be full of cringe worthy information about how 2013 has been the best year of my life, but I will say one thing; a major thank you to everyone who has contributed to the great things and if you didn't I guess I'll be leaving you behind in 2013 (no hard feelings).

But guys can I just dwell in the fact that a few months ago no one knew about my blog and now thousands of you have read it at least once, I am ultimately grateful and I hope 2014 will hold positive surprises that we couldn't even dream of happening, both for you and for me.

Now back to the main focus of this post, I would like to introduce you guys to a very talented girl. As you know, I love having a little creep on Facebook, especially when something interesting on my newsfeed catches my eye. So what was so interesting that had me wanting to do a whole blog post on it? Michaela Marrett. Some of you may have already been aware of her amazing makeup and beauty skills but when I flicked through her pictures, I was in complete awe. Only then did I actually realise that the use of makeup is an art, an art which I found was Michaela's forté; so of course I had to show you guys.

I know with a lot of hard work and patience (and perhaps the start up of a youtube channel?) Michaela could just be Ireland's next big thing in the beauty industry and believe me I am not just saying that. What a lot of people don't understand is that if you want a career in something you have to start perfecting your skills in that area from the minute you realise that it is your forté. I know a lot of you guys look at young celebrities and wonder how they got so successful so quickly- well if you look close enough you'll realise that most of them started their career from the age of as little as 3 years old. For example: Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Michael Jackson and the amazing Beyoncé.

"If you want to be somebody, if you wanna go somewhere then you better wake up and pay attention."

Here are the three cohesive looks that Michaela created especially for my blog. These three looks show how you can go from day time to night time and finally to fantasy, showing that makeup isn't just something that is used to enhance beauty but to create art. Sounds beautiful right?

1. The Simple Day Look

2. New Years Eve Party Look

Tips for Day to Night Transition

  •  When applying foundation use enough to attend to the coverage you need but not too much as this allows for slightly more to be applied on top later on for the night look.
  • Translucent powder and matte blusher and bronzers will add colour and prevent shine building up in the products and give you an oil free face.

  • Brow shape can be difficult but help is at hand. Try some brow stencils available in chemists and boots all over. I personally use the French Connection stencils.
  • A base for your shadow will help waterproof and smudge proof all your hard work.
  • Use a bank card or credit card to help create a nice clean edge for your look.
  • Experiment with different shades of blue and orange. I used a blusher for my shade because I liked it. Remember just because it's made for one thing doesn't mean you can't use it other ways!
  • Use a purple shade as a mid-tone to nicely blend the two clashing colours together.
  • Add your lippy and go a little more daring with your contour and you're good to go.

3. Fantasy Look

Michaela says:

  • For this look I used the MAN Liner in Oceans's 11 and added this to my original eye.
  • I contoured with MAN Pigment Orange Roughie.
  • I did a slight ombré lip with the OPI lipstick and MAN Liner in Ocean's 11.
  • I mixed the MAN pigment and OPI Lipstick and used that to define my brows.

 Products

  • MAN Foundation Shade 202.
  • CATRICE Translucent Powder
  • CARGO Blusher Shade Gotham
  • LANCÔME Bronzer in 03 Ocre Bronze
  • French Connection Brown Eyebrow Pencil
  • KHROMA Joystick in Modern Mauve
  • KHROMA WhipLash Mascara
  • OPI LIPCOLOUR Baguette Me Not
  • BellaPierre Make Up Base
  • Credit Card to help achieve sharp edge
  • Rimmel Colour Rush in Matte White
  • BellaPierre in Shade Ha Ha
  • Fuchsia Blusher Palette Shade Sunrise
  • Purple Mauve in Smashbox Muse Palette
  • MAN Pigment in shade Orange Roughie
  • MAN Liner in shade Ocean's 11

So I hope you guys enjoyed that post and I just wanted to say a massive thank you to Michaela for agreeing to feature on my blog.

Happy New Years and remember that I love you guys.

Your girl

Best Dressed: Facebookers of the month (Christmas Edition)

Hey guys,

I know I haven't blogged in a few days because I got carried away with family and friends, which I don't regret- I've missed them all so much and if that meant taking a few days off blogging then so be it hehe. But guys I think I have pneumonia now from making a horrible decision to go out in the midst of a storm, feel free to judge and crucify me haha!

Okay I've got some pretty important updates for you guys on a few things. I know some of you are dying to know what I'm blogging about next so here is a list:

  • Feature on Kim Kardashian
  • How To: Dress for your shape
  • Giveaway: Win a photoshoot with the amazing photographer Peter McCabe
  • How To: Flat stomach in 10 days
  • Shannon does my makeup (Youtube video)
  • Beyond the surface: Ogi Ugonoh

About the Urban Decay Naked Palette Giveaway, I've decided to extend the date to the 30th of January. Before you guys start ranting and raving, I am further upgrading the giveaway; instead of giving away a Basics Palette, I will be giving away the Naked 3 palette if 100 people enter this giveaway by the 30th; I think 40 odd people have entered so guys get your friends to enter because this is a giveaway not to be missed! So hopefully this will encourage more of you to enter.

Now finally to get back on topic, I have picked 6 Best Dressed Facebookers of the month even though it was just supposed to be 5. Let me just say you guys are on point! I'll be creeping for January's best dressed in a few days guys so make sure to keep posting.
I just wanted to let you guys know that the style of others is something I love incorporating into my blog because hey two heads are always better than one; the more people you have to draw inspiration from the more chance you have of finding your own distinct style.

1.  Sandy Okafor:  Pretty in White

Mizzmoi says: I was honestly stunned when I saw your picture on my newsfeed. The outfit was so simple but classy, sophisticated but edgy. The touch of red screams perfection. Great combination, couldn't have put a better outfit together myself.

2. Justine McKenna: La fille de Paris

Mizzmoi says: Your outfit reminds me of the elegance of French girls. I love how you paired these pieces together!

3. Suzanne Jackson: New York City Dreams

Mizzmoi says: The contrast between the pink furry jacket and the leather jacket is my favourite thing about this outfit. Even if the jacket was black this outfit would still be just as hot; what people don't realise is that it's not only the colour combination that can make an outfit, it's the textures of the pieces also.

4. Orlaith Kent: Upper East side chic

Mizzmoi says: This look reminds me of Serena from Gossip Girl. Orlaith once again you have made it on this month's best dressed! Your style in general reminds me so much of Serena (Blake Lively) from Gossip Girl. Black and white looks so strong together and I am loving the hat!

5. Blake Von D: Urban sophistication

Mizzmoi says: I saw this collage on my newsfeed on Christmas day and had to share. I've always been a major of your style and blog. These 3 looks specifically left me speechless, you are so inspirational!

6. Joy Adeyanju: Rihanna personified

Mizzmoi says: I don't know what it is but the minute I saw this outfit on my newsfeed, I thought of Rihanna! I love how you're rocking the "all black errr'thing" look; the contrast between the textures on that pencil skirt looks amazing and you know exactly how to dress for your shape.

Steal Her Style: Beyoncé

Hey guys,

I was so tired yesterday and just could not bring myself to write up something for you guys knowing that it'd be absolutely rubbish and incomprehensible- what kind of fashion advisor would I be then?! You said it- a fairly fucking shit one. I have something to tell you guys and I know I wasn't going to say it before because I didn't want to sound like a winy bitch but recently, I've been seeing all these blogs popping up. To be fairly honest, I got jealous because I thought, that's it for me- *say goodbye to your dreams because they're more popular than you.* Then I realised how stupid and moronic I was being and said to myself, people can do their own thing while you still do yours. It's not a competition. Blogging shouldn't be about trying to be better than the next person, it's about trying to write a better blog post than my last. So there you go guys a little insight into the miserable side of my mind ha!

Swiftly moving forward, I have exciting news for you (or for me?!) I'm going to Beyoncé with my gorgeous sister as one of my Christmas presents- eep!
So I've decided to do a steal her style for you guys on the gorgeous Mrs Carter- I know you girlies are super excited about this, don't lie to me ;) I love absolutely every item I specifically picked for these looks and of course I was careful, it is Queen Bey we're dealing with after all!

Things I'm currently in love with: French accents and the french language <3 font="">

How To: Look as pretty as Kylie Jenner (Shannon Leathem's Edition)

Hey guys,

So last week was pretty crazy for me as most of you know. I spent a lot of time and effort (ugh) studying for UCD Winter exams, blogging and jumping around my dorm room because I hit 10K on my blog and now I'm about to hit 11K which is pretty spectacular, thank you guys- I wouldn't be blogging if I didn't have any readers! Don't forget about my NAKED palette giveaway! 12K for Christmas anyone?! If I reached that I don't even think I'd care about my Christmas presents as much as doubling my views in 3 weeks. Blogging is kind of my life so during exams I still try to fit in a tiny space for it 'cause I like helping you girls (and guys) out with fashion and beauty!

So today I've got a very special something for you guys, yes, another tutorial by my girl Shannon. I honestly think she's like the next Shaaanxo! And no not because they share the same first name hehe seriously check both of them out, these girls are amazing at what they do! So you want to look like Kylie Jenner? I've got amazing steps and tips for you to get Kylie's beautiful natural daily look.

Hope you guys enjoy this post, and I'd like to once again say thank you to the lovely Shannon for doing the tutorial! We have a project in plan of making a YouTube video where Shannon does my makeup- yes that's what I said- eep, I'm too excited!

Things I'm currently in love with: naturally blonde hair and Swedish names, don't ask hehe.

Much love from your girl
-Mizzmoi xoxo

STEPS

Step 1: Apply a matte foundation onto your skin.

Step 2: Conceal spots or problem areas with a concealer.

Step 3: Dust off with a compact powder in order to avoid that gross oily shine.

Step 4: Contour your face with your bronzer; apply it to your cheekbones forehead and neck and add a suited pink blush to your cheeks (don't forget to smile!) very lightly.

Step 5: Apply a nude base onto your eyelids.

Step 6: Apply a neutral eyeliner to your top water line and bottom water line to give you a wide eye look.

Step 7: Read the tutorial on winged liner here and follow the steps.

Step 8: Curl your eyelashes with an eyelash curler (optional) and add some volume mascara, making sure to do so lightly.

Step 9: Line your lips with a red lipliner and then apply a matte red lipstick using a lip brush if preferred.

So guys if you don't look as pretty as Kylie Jenner after performing those steps, then I simply don't know what to say! Shannon managed to pull it off amazingly well but still kept her individuality which is exactly what you need to do when following celebrity trends.

Mizzmoi's Tips: "Practice makes perfect so even if you're sitting in your house over the Christmas break and are not going anywhere, still whip out your makeup bag and get started on making yourself look even more beautiful! Take pictures and compare them to the last time you tried this look."

Shannon's Tips:

  • Try not to cake the foundation on to your face, one layer is enough ladies.
  • Take your time with this look, it's simple but can be easily ruined.
  • Red lips look classy but if you can't maintain it properly on a night out, don't wear it!
  • You don't need to purchase expensive makeup to get Kylie's look- drugstore makeup is just fine.
  • Red Lipstick should not be worn with a dramatic eye, it's either one or the other; don't be indecisive!

  • RiRi Woo Lipstick- MAC
  • MUA Red Lipliner- SuperDrug
  • MUA bronzer- SuperDrug
  • MUA compact bronzer- SuperDrug
  • Cattrice mascara- Pennys

Bring out the Nasty Gal in you : Christmas/New Years Party outfit ideas

Good evening pretty ladies,

Why I just started my blog post off like that, I do not know hehe. As some of you may or may not know I tend to be so cringe at times but whatevs *too fabulous to care*.
My day consisted of boring Data Analysis (trust me you do not want to know). But yes, do question my intelligence on writing posts for my blog in the midst of exams, I question it too hehe but I'm going to call it my lovely study break! Speaking of a break, grab a cup of coffee or tea, biscuits and blankets before you read on, I want your attention span at the greatest peak because I have amazing selections to show you guys!

You guys know I'm a huge fan of Nasty Gal, the online clothing store. I think they're actually the best for Christmas/New Year's party outfits! Today I've got 3 different looks for you guys, you can be the girl who just likes to slip on the glam dress, the two-piece nasty gal or the "it's all about the shoes" type of nasty gal.

In case you didn't understand the gibberish above, what you really want to see is below hehe!

Your nasty gal
-Mizzmoi X

1. All things Sequins and Sophisticated

I'm going to use Christmas and New Year's as the perfect excuse to wear a sequinned dress (A&F staff Christmas Party perhaps? hmm) 'cause let's face it, when else is it undyingly appropriate?! Match it with a pair of simple heels, no accessories needed and you're set to party hardy.

2. The Two-Piece Nasty Gal

I specifically love putting two pieces together because personally just slipping on a dress requires no effort and I'm pretty much a girl who loves to put the E in effort.

3. Did anyone say Jeffrey Campbell? NYC Edge

If you're a jeans and a slinky top kind of girl (less is more!), I think the best way to vamp up your outfit and give it the edge it needs would be investing in a pair of JC's for Christmas or during the January sales- don't worry girls, Nasty Gal will most certainly be having one!

Best Dressed: Facebookers of the month

Hey guys,

I had my first proper Uni exam today and I'm pretty drained so I'm literally going to fly through this. I'd love to tell you that my day consisted of sleeping, eating, tumblring and what not but unfortunately I spent a lot of my time in the Quinn study, getting my shit together for my maths exam- typical that maths would be the first right? Haha!

I feel like I do enough talking about myself and spend a lot of time giving you guys tips so today I've decided I want to commend the most stylish Facebookers of the month. I didn't have time to go through everyone on my friends list (devo) but if I did, I'm pretty sure there'd be a lot more of you guys on here! Considering I love having a little creep on Facebook, just to see what people are wearing- I might do one of these every second month or so! Let me know if you like that idea in the comments pls :)) Anyhoo I might do a Men's version of this post just because I hate leaving you poor gentlemen out, so I'll keep you posted! Don't forget to enter my new give-away guys, it's ending in a week!

Stay Stylish,

Your girl
-Mizzmoi X

1. Orla Murray: Edg-elegance personified

Mizzmoi says: I am too in love with this look! It's styled perfectly. The balance is on point; she has just the right amount of boldness to pull this look off. My favourite of the 5!

Kamilė says:This outfit simply shouts "elegance". Very classy but still pretty simple, just as it should be.
My favourite of the 5!

Sasi says (my sister): Sophisticated with an air of edginess- simply stunning and suits your slim frame. Favourite of the 5!

2. Orlaith Kent: New York City Bold

Mizzmoi says: I love the idea of leather and fur in one combo! The white watch adds the perfect touch to this outfit. Girls, remember attention to detail is key!

Kamilė says: Fake fur are a must this winter! They keep you warm on a chilly Winter day and gives your outfit that extra stylishness.

Sasi says: Fake fur over real fur any day; I'd love to get the coat in black- très chic! A beautiful smile always goes along way, might I add!

3. Guoda Remeikaitė: Let It Burn

Mizzmoi says: This reminds me of the good old days that we categorise as summer! I like the fact that the top is black and the shorts are yellow- most people would do it the other way around which would be mundane!

Kamilė says: Simple but cute; perfect for those hot summer days!

Sasi says: Simple but comfortable, perfect for a day at the beach or just chilling with friends!

4. Orna Doohan: 60s with a Twist

Mizzmoi says: The idea to do sequin and pink at the same time doesn't appeal to my imagination but seeing this in picture made me think wow! I'll definitely be trying this look sometime; perfect for New Year's celebrations!

Kamilė says: Sequined dresses are so chick and feminine! If you're looking for a dress for a Christmas night out I would totally recommend to go for one with sequins - it just screams ''HO HO HO''

5. Elmo Rtadi: Modern Minimalist

Mizzmoi says: First of all the high ponytail and red lipstick turns this outfit from simple to RiRi edgy. Love a pop of colour in the midst of an all black outfit! Check out her blog here guys!

Kamilė says: This outfit is perfect for going out in autumn/winter times when you really don't feel like wearing a dress. Black is always the best choice but if you want to be noticed more don't forget to add something colourful for example- a simple green blouse. And you can never go wrong with a leather jacket.

Sasi says: This look is minimalistic but stylish. Girls, take note this is how you get the balance of casual and elegance.

Christmas Edition: The Perfect Pyjamas for you

Did anyone here that? The sound of jingle bells and reindeer sneers? That could mean only one thing, Christmas is coming- eep! (If you think that line was cringy as hell, don't worry about it I totally understand phew). Guise though, I am super excited for Christmas, more so for the food and family cosiness (and presents) than any other thing.

So my sister suggested I do a blog post on how to feel very cosy and comfortable on Christmas morning and I was like uh, no. Who the hell would want to read about that?! But after thinking about it for a minute and a half, I decided that it was actually quite an interesting idea! There would be nothing worse than waking up and feeling 'ew' on Christmas morning. The only thing that can prevent that is having a shower before you go to sleep (or a lavender bath- that does sound good doesn't it?!) and of course purchasing some soft, warm and comfortable pyjamas for Christmas eve night. Genius right? ;)

So I'm going to provide you with some of my favourite pyjamas sets that would have you dreaming for Christmas morning to be here already.

Here we go, for both men and women!

Love
-Mizzmoi X

1. Abercrombie & Fitch

So we all know A&F make the softest clothes. IF you're going to invest in your Christmas outfit, why not invest in your pyjamas too?!

2. Victoria's Secret

Want to look hot as hell even in Pyjamas? My mindset is you only live once in the sense that you should always try to look your best at all times, especially since Santa's coming ;)

3. Pennys

If you want to go for affordable yet still comfortable, Pennys is always the way to go! Stock up on cute pyjama shorts, a tank and knee-high socks and you'll look cute as ever!

4. New Look

For that classic onesie look- you can't beat a cute, comfortable overall!

5. SuperDry

Guys I've got some cute boy shorts for you to invest in and girls some cute boxer shorts- who's excited?! Can I just say I'm loving SuperDry at the mo!

How To: The Perfect Winged Liner (Shannon Leathem's Edition)

Hey guys,

So I know I didn't post yesterday but it's because I didn't have time to. It's exam season in UCD right now and I am up to my ear in work. My friend and I get up every morning at 7am just to be at the Quinn study area for 8am. This is what you call leaving things until last minute and I'd be blatantly lying if I said it will never occur again hehe ;)

Swiftly moving on I've got a great "How To" blog post here for you guys. Shannon's back with her pretty face and exquisite makeup skills- I still can't get over the fact that she hasn't professionally studied makeup, she is too good at it!

Now let's face it I know a lot of you girls cannot do winged liner to save your lives and neither can I if I'm honest so thank God for people who can show us exactly what to do. IF this is you below, I urge you to please, for your own sake, read on hehe.

Lots of love
-Mizzmoi X

STEPS

1. Starting at the middle of your upper lid, draw a line as closely to your lashes as possible stopping at the edge of your eye. Short strokes are advised if you're a beginner.

2. Now start at the inner corner of your eye and draw a line that meets the first line you just drew.

3. Creating a wing is the easier part of the process, simply line your hand to the last of your lashes and draw a line at the angle you prefer.

4. Now bring your liner back up to your upper lash line, creating an empty triangle that ends at the middle of your lash line.

5. Colour in the triangle with your liner.

6. Add 2-3 coats of volume mascara to create a neat, sexy look.

Mizzmoi's Tip: This takes a lot of practice to perfect so don't get too upset if you don't get it right on the first go.

Shannon's Tip: Try and draw the line as closely to your lash line as possible to avoid mistakes. Don't try and draw the line in one stroke, do it inch by inch and take your time!

  • Ceatrice Mascara- Penneys €4.49
  • Cattrice liquid liner- Penneys €3.89

Tumblr Favourites: Pants off, laptop on, blogging 'till the break of dawn

Hey guise,

How is everyone doing?! So I know it's exam season for a lot of us and well quite blatantly most of us are freaking out. This is the point where I question my decision of picking UCD over Trinity who have no Christmas exams (just kidding, 'trinners' for wankers not winners).
Anyway other than the fact that I failed miserably at studying today due to some heavy procrastination, I did however get my 2500 word essay submitted before the deadline and considering it was the most boring module in the history of modules (quite literally when I say history) I consider that as quite a big achievement hehe.

But enough about my life, what about yours?! Drop me a message on any of my social networks, I want to know!

Here are my Tumblr favourites of tonight and yes I mean just tonight. I'm always on Tumblr and my favourites change so quickly; it's really my favourite social media site if I'm honest just because you can say what you want and post what you want and no one will judge or complain that you post too much, like people do on Facebook. If you have a Tumblr, comment with your URL down below and I'll check yours out, I really need new blogs to follow hehe. I'm in a bit of a Drake mood right now and I am so in love with Drake's song "I get lonely too"- it's beyond cute! Anyone else just love everything about Drake?! Eeep!

Enough ramblings for the night.

Love
Your gal,
-Mizzmoi X
